Everyone loves a home with extra space, and if you’re living in a small apartment or house, you’re continually looking for ways to make your home appear bigger. There are different ways in which you can make your home feel and look bigger, spacious and welcoming.

You can go for small ideas and changes here and there, or you can throw yourself into specific projects that would change the appearance of your home and at the same time, help you maximize space. Here are four simple renovation projects that you can choose from:

Spacious living room with new decor

Change the Décor

You can decide to target the décor of your home directly and at the same time, make it appear bigger. Adjust the rooms of your home to give it more natural lighting as this opens up space and makes rooms look bigger. You can also go all out and paint your walls with neutral colors and the ceiling with something brighter to give the house a more minimalist design.

Adding mirrors will provide a reflection that visually expands space. Add to the décor of your home by hanging artwork on the walls, which makes it feel and look spacious and luxurious, and switch to wall-to-wall bookcases rather than shelves that consume space. When maximizing space, you can also purchase furniture that is the same color shade as the walls.

Reorganize Your Home

Reorganizing the furniture or objects in your home will also go a long way in making it appear bigger and changing the look at the same time. You can take a weekend off to reorganize everything in your house to create more space, make your home neat and change the look. You can add custom built-ins in your rooms rather than furniture that eats up space.

Another thing to do is reorganize the furniture strategically. Poorly positioned furniture will take up space and increase clutter. For one, don’t let your furniture pieces touch the wall. Also, arrange your furniture diagonally rather than horizontally or vertically and keep them from blocking entrances. You can also use behind-the-console couch designs.

Redesign Your Rooms

If you don’t want to change the entire décor of your home, you can make it a project to adjust the designs and create more space. For one, design the rooms with airy and light colors and use furniture with stripes like the rugs. You can also try open cabinetry as this makes a place look more spacious.

Apart from the open cabinetry, you can also cleverly position the drapes so that they face upward and look more extensive. If you want artwork, you can hang oversized paintings that make the room look bigger, but not too many that can make it appear cluttered. Face the furniture towards windows and don’t use an oversized rug.

Home office with replaced furniture

Replace Furniture

For anyone who wants a change of environment and more space, replacing some of your furniture will go a long way. If you’re going to transform the décor of your home, you can start by getting a lofted bed. A lofted bed helps you create space instantly and takes advantage of ceiling space. It also prevents you from creating an area where you might end up using to store junk. After changing the beds, you can also choose furniture pieces that have legs, like raised armchairs or sofas, as they make the room look more spacious. Also, use see-through furniture like a glass table, as it makes any room appear bigger.
