7 Things to Consider When Choosing a Home Security System in Australia

You should never play it easy if you’re looking for a home security system. Australia is a relatively safe country but over 4% of Australians reported having experienced actual or attempted break-ins in the past two years. This is not something that should go unnoticed. This is why you should be particular when looking for a home security system. You can contact people from Casa Security if you have no time to do extensive research and DIY installation. Or you could read on and check out things that you could easily do to look for the perfect home security system.

7 Things to Consider When Choosing a Home Security System in Australia

1. Ask yourself this question: what am I protecting?

It will be very easy for you to decide on the best home security system if you exactly know what you’re protecting. Are you protecting an outdoor or indoor space? Is it a space that is well-lit or almost always dark? Knowing what you exactly need to protect will simplify your decision-making process. If you’re protecting an outdoor space, then you’d have to choose a system that can withstand nasty changing weather. If you’re protecting an indoor space, then you’d have to consider ones that will match the interior of your home. Knowing what you need to protect will allow you to seamlessly move from one important factor to another.

2. Ask yourself this question: what is the size of your home?

Your security system should be able to fully cover all parts of your home. This is why it is necessary for you to know how big your home is if you’re looking to have a security system installed. It will be a waste of money if you’d opt for a security system that won’t cover your entire space or one that has massive blindspots. This is why doing a complete survey of your home – both indoor and outdoor spaces – is important prior to doing actual home security system research.

3. Budget

You should have a budget in mind and it should be as particular as possible. Having one will prevent you from overspending and checking out systems that are even out of your league. It will effectively limit your choices as you’d only consider ones that your budget could allow. Don’t feel bad about dedicating a huge chunk of your budget to home security. You should keep in mind that a one-time purchase of a full security system will last you for a lifetime.  This is why you should avoid scrimping as much as possible. You can be sure that opting for premium home security systems will bring more value to your money as the years go by.

4. Wired or wireless

Do you want a wireless or wired home security system?

Answering this question will depend on your kind of lifestyle. Most home security systems are now wireless as they allow for more flexibility. A wireless home system also allows for easy integration with other smart appliances. It’s also ideal for people who rent as it can easily be transferred from one place to another. A wired home security system is best if you already have a house of your own. This is the case because all the wires can be built-in properly and permanently.

5. Features

What features do you want? Are you fine with not having a camera? Will an infrared sensor be enough? Do you want loud alarms? Answering these questions will highly depend on the kind of lifestyle you lead, your unique spaces, and the items that you want to secure. You will need extra features if you want to prevent fires or other biological hazards. If you’re clueless about features that will be ideal for your home, then you should consult with security experts. Security experts can easily advise you on the security features that will best fit your home. There is no point in choosing highly advanced features when they don’t match your lifestyle.

6. Size

Apart from the size of your home, you should also be particular about the size of your security system. Will it need extra space? Does your house have room for it? Different systems come in different sizes. A bigger house will not automatically need a bigger home security system. Wireless security systems don’t take up much space so you should consider one if you want a home security system that you can easily install just about anywhere. A home security system with simple features will not come with extensive hardware. You will need to prepare more space for more hardware if you’d opt for extra security features.

7. Automations

Most Australian homes are now run by smart appliances. This is why it will be best if you could opt for a home security system that can easily integrate with other appliances and can be automated. Automation is ideal if you’re privy to setting up parameters for making your daily tasks easier. A home security system that allows for automation can do the following:

  • Automatically send alarms via texts or phone calls
  • Automatically turn on or turn off appliances
  • Automatically turn on indoor and outdoor lights
  • Automatically lock when no person is around the area
  • Automatically lock at a certain time of the day
  • Automatically send footage or images at a given time
