If you live in a house, especially a recently built one, you likely need help with what to do with your yard. It’s no fun to stare at a bare dirt patch with sprinklers and a garden hose lying out in the sun, looking loveless but at the same time functional.

If you don’t live in a house, you still might want to spruce up the landscape design for front yard for family barbecues and general home pride. You’ve come to the right place if you need a few pointers for front-yard landscaping ideas.

Keep reading for four suggestions for different yard layouts and beautiful tips on filling the space between your house and the street.

1. Use Ground Covers

Ground covers are invaluable for front yard landscape designs. They are versatile, easy to maintain, and aesthetically pleasing. They can complement existing landscaping and provide a good substitution for turf grasses.

They can also create a more textured front land landscape by providing depth, color, and various textures. Plants such as ivy, ivy geraniums, and creeping phlox are suitable for use as both sun or shade ground covers. They are well suited for the front yard because they can be used to keep moisture and control weeds.

2. Add Lighting

Aside from providing brightness, it can also create different effects giving the design appeal. Uplighting can highlight certain yard features, accenting them and making them stand out.

Low-voltage lighting can also create soft, subtle brightness for pathways, extending the yard’s usable space far into the evening hours. Recessed fixtures can be installed in appropriate locations, providing a warm, inviting ambiance and a cozy atmosphere for outdoor entertaining.

Flowering tree

3. Add a Flowering Tree

Flowering trees can provide a stunning display of color during the spring and summer and look gorgeous when in full bloom. You can choose a flowering tree to match your home and other yard plants or pick one based on your favorite color or bloom season.

When selecting a flowering tree, choose a species suited to your climate and soil conditions and large enough to fit in with your design plans. After choosing one, consider placing it in the center of your design or off to one side to allow the blossoms to cycle through the growing season.

Yellow flowers

4. Choose an Accent Color

If there are a lot of green trees and shrubbery, consider a yellow or orange to create a nice contrast. If the area is more barren, warm colors like red and yellow would work best. Introducing a more relaxed tone like blue or gray can add drama and elegance.

Remember to choose colors that work together and bring out the palette of the adjacent areas.
If you want more ideas, try choosing high-gloss paver sealers that create the perfect finishing touch to seal the project and keep it in good condition.
