A Custom Star Map by Modern Map Art is one of the coolest gift ideas I?ve seen in a long time. They?re perfect for anniversaries, birthdays or pretty much any life event or holiday with a specific day.
These maps are essentially a poster of the night sky over a specific place on Earth on a specific date.
They have an amazing database of star patterns. All you need to do is put in a specific date and a specific location (you can search by city or even specific latitude and longitude coordinates). The software will then generate a map of the stars that appeared that night in that place.
It?s definitely a unique and romantic gift idea.
Modern Map Art has a customization tool that lets you design exactly how your poster looks.
First you can choose if you want a standard poster (this is what I got and the quality is great), a framed poster or a canvas print.
Then you have the option to select from 5 different sizes:
- 8 x 10
- 12 x 18
- 16 x 20
- 18 x 24
- 24 x 36
These are pretty standard sizes so no matter what size you order you should have no trouble finding a nice frame.
You then have a few different options for what kind of background colours you want.
The background can be white, black, grey or navy with different background options for the star map part itself.
Then you simply enter a location and a date and the database pulls the astrological data to generate your star map.
After this you can enter a custom message with a title and subtitle at the bottom of the map and choose from a few different fonts for the text.
Finally you get the option to select if you want lines showing where all the constellations are or not.
I decided to not include the constellation lines on my map. I thought it was a little bit more fun to try to look for them myself.
For my poster I decided to commemorate the date I was married and chose to have the night sky on the date I was married over the specific town we were married in. It?s definitely a beautiful and unique piece of art that?s now hanging in my home.
