Ways to Connect Your Indoor and Outdoor Areas

When designing and decorating their home, most people focus on their interior space without thinking twice about their exterior. And even though this isn’t the best way to go, it still makes a lot of sense in the long run.

After all, most people spend the majority of their time in their living area, hanging out with their friends, bonding with their family, or relaxing on their own. That’s why bedrooms, living rooms and kitchens have always been more popular than backyards, patios and decks.

However, just because most people do things this way doesn’t mean that you should act like them too. On the contrary, there’s nothing stopping you from paying special attention to your outside area and giving it the love it needs. Moreover, if you want to do a thorough job decorating your home, you should focus on both of these areas and make them work together.

In case this is something you’d like to do, here are a few ways to connect your indoor and outdoor areas.

Use The Same Materials

When thinking about spending time in the open, most of us stick to simple solutions like decks and patios. This is why you should consider building them if you’re not equipped with these spaces at the moment, or you might just spice them up a bit if they’re already around. However, if you wish to help them look nice and make them a part of your indoor/outdoor design, you should use quality materials only.

From timber to tiles, you’ll have lots of options to choose from, and even more colors and price ranges to look into. Still, if you wish to do everything right, just use the same materials you’ve already used in your kitchen and living room – and that’s it!

Personalize, Personalize, Personalize

Decorating and furnishing your home usually comes down to picking the furniture and decor pieces that show the world who you are and tell your story to your visitors. These personalized pieces can go from childhood memories and family photos to travel souvenirs and sports memorabilia. Whatever you pick, you have to pick things that have something to do with your life and your family.

The same goes when decorating your outdoor area, and if you manage to personalize this space as well, you’ll bring it closer to your indoor space too. Sometimes, even the simplest things can do the trick. For instance, a personalized parcel box featuring a cool font and your address won’t just help your postman find you more easily, but it’s also going to help your home make a great first impression as well. You can also hang some photos all around your patio area and show your guests what makes you and your family so cool and unique.

Open The Doors and Windows

Probably the easiest way to connect these two areas is to actually connect them and break the barrier between them. If you want to spend more time in your backyard, you can always break down a wall separating your patio and your living room, and replace it with one of those massive French doors instead. These are easy to open and they’ll let you see every corner of your backyard from the comfort of your living room, and that’s the way to go if you want to make the most of both of these spaces.

You can also install sliding doors that will turn your entire wall into a giant display of your backyard or, if you’re not in the position to invest that much money into these projects, you can just leave your doors and windows open all day long and let tons of fresh air and natural sunlight into your living space.

Make Your Outdoor Area More Useful

Finally, if you want to take things to a whole new level, you should do something about your exterior space and make it more useful than ever before. Whether you have a patio, a deck, or just an empty backyard, you can turn these areas into outdoor spaces where you can spend as much time as you want. What’s even better is that you’ll have so many options to choose from, and that means that everyone will be able to pick a setup that will work for them.

If you want to go all in, start by building an outdoor kitchen and dining area where you can prepare your meals and spend some quality time with your friends and family. If not, you can add a few string lights, some comfy chairs, and a cool indoor plant stand you can use outside as well, and start hanging out in the open instead of being inside all the time.

Wrapping It Up

Connecting your indoor and outdoor areas might sound like a lot of work, but once you discover these simple projects, you’ll see that these things are neither hard nor expensive, so just pick an idea that works for you the most and start turning it into reality!
